Remote Reiki for Animals: How to Tell If It’s Working (Signs to Look For)

Many of my clients ask me how do I know that remote pet reiki is working? Are there any signs to observe so that I know the reiki is working? And, yes, there are! My clients often share these with me following on from my sessions. Here are a few signs that I regularly observe and hear back about from animal reiki sessions.
One of the most common signs is sleepiness and calmness. Many clients report that their animals seem very relaxed during remote reiki sessions. I have experienced dogs with severe separation anxiety become noticeably calmer during and after a session, settling in a way that felt unusual for them at first, but increasingly familiar over time. This sense of relaxation is often one of the first indicators that the energy work is being received.
Another frequent sign is yawning. Animals will yawn as I connect to share the reiki energy. I have especially experienced this with many animals, but especially with dogs and horses. Yawning is often associated with releasing tension, and it can appear quite quickly once the session begins.
Closely related is sighing. Animals will sigh as I connect to share the reiki, as well as during the reiki session itself. These soft releases of breath often feel like a settling of energy, as if the animal is allowing themselves to fully relax into the moment.
Some animals show more physical responses such as nostril flaring. I have experienced horses’ nostrils flaring during sessions, which their owners rarely observed previously. This can be a subtle but clear sign of increased awareness or energetic response.
Other common responses include twitching and ear flickering. This has happened for clients’ cats and dogs during sessions. These small movements can indicate that the animal is processing sensations or shifting their awareness while remaining in a relaxed state.
Some animals will begin looking up or around the room, as if responding to something they sense but cannot see. This can feel like a moment of curiosity or connection, where the animal appears to be engaging with energy in their environment. It may also involve them focusing on certain areas of the space in a calm and attentive way.
Very rarely, remote animal reiki work can make animals more vocal. This has happened on occasions with older animals. Rather than being a sign of distress, it often seems to be a form of expression or release during the session.
One client shared this experience with me following on from a remote Animal Soul Connection session:
“My cat began interacting with me in a new way. He sits on me more and he touches the top of his head to my forehead often. A few times I was aware that the work was being done. This gave me great confidence in the treatment being done from a distance.”
There are many ways that animals respond to remote reiki, and every response and every session is unique. No two experiences are ever quite the same, and that individuality is part of what makes the work so interesting to observe and reflect on. I’ll keep this list up to date so you can check back and see my observations as they continue to develop over time.
