The Root chakra in animals

Updated: May 30, 2023

Does your animal have very cool, calm and contented temperament and take everything in their stride? Or do they look really unsettled and on edge at any slightly unusual noise? If they are a cool cookie, then they are likely to have a balanced Root chakra. If they are easily stirred, the chances are that that this chakra is unbalanced.

The location of the Root chakra is the very bottom of your animal, at the base of the coccyx. This chakra is associated with the colour red, with symbolises strength and vitality. It is linked to our animal’s physical and emotional needs of survival and self-preservation. This chakra is all about survival instincts and security and safety needs.

I have seen imbalances in the Root chakra when an animal has been rescued by their current owner and have experienced negative and distressing situations and abandonment with previous owners, which means that their sense of safety and security, their Root chakra energy, has been depleted.

Positive Root chakra energy assists animals in letting go, accepting changes and feeling safe. It links to the adrenal glands, colon, kidneys, skeleton/bones, muscles, and arterial blood.

A well-balanced Root chakra means that your animal feels strong, supported and unfazed, which enables them to be confident and strong.

Signs of an unbalanced Root chakra can include daily nervousness, showing signs of fear and having a strong flight reaction, such as hiding or running away to a safe place if someone they don’t know visits the house.

It can also be reflected in eating disorders and weight issues such as overeating or being underweight, irrespective of eating lots of food. Also look out for fatigue, constipation, fear and anxiety in your animal, as these can also link to the

Root chakra.

You can work with the Root chakra through gently rubbing or holding your hand gently on your animal’s coccyx area, if they allow you to do this. Choose to work with crystals such as Red Jasper and Smoky Quartz.

In each of my animal reiki and communication sessions I work through balancing each of the chakras for your animal, and by using intuitive communication I am able to pass along messages to you.
